NHT Reports 40,000 on Waitlist, Details Parish Developments

The National Housing Trust reveals over 40,000 contributors are awaiting affordable homes. New developments are active in multiple parishes to address the backlog.

The National Housing Trust (NHT) has reported that over 40,000 contributors are currently on the waiting list for affordable housing solutions across Jamaica. This figure was confirmed by NHT Managing Director, Martin Miller, during a recent presentation to Parliament's Public Administration and Appropriations Committee (PAAC).

The NHT is actively pursuing developments in several parishes to increase supply. Current projects include the Greater Bernard Lodge development in St. Catherine, the Friendship phase in St. James, and the Truro development in St. Mary. The Trust is also advancing plans for the Hartlands phase two development in St. Catherine and the Orange Grove phase two in St. Ann.

For Jamaican contributors, this ongoing demand highlights the persistent gap between housing need and available, affordable units. The waitlist number underscores the scale of the challenge facing the state agency, which is funded by mandatory contributions from employees and employers.

Jamaicans should monitor the progress of these parish developments and future NHT announcements regarding the application and selection process for these new units. The agency's ability to accelerate construction and unit delivery will be critical in reducing the significant backlog.
