Summary

We collect the information needed to run the site, provide tools and newsletters, protect against abuse, measure performance, and support advertising. We do not ask you for sensitive government numbers through public forms, and our calculators are intended to work without requiring you to create an account. Advertising, analytics, hosting, email, security, and monetization partners may use cookies, web beacons, IP addresses, device identifiers, and similar technologies to provide, measure, improve, and protect their services.

1. Who We Are and What This Policy Covers

OurJa is an independent digital publication and tool website available at ourja.info. We publish Jamaica-focused news, guides, explainers, calculators, and other digital tools for general informational and educational purposes.

This Policy applies to information collected through the website, emails, forms, tools, advertising integrations, analytics integrations, security systems, and related services that link to this Policy. It does not apply to third-party websites, apps, platforms, advertisers, payment services, government agencies, or social networks that we do not control.

2. Information We Collect

Depending on how you use the site, we may collect the following categories of information:

  • Contact information: email address, name, message content, newsletter preferences, unsubscribe requests, and other information you voluntarily submit.
  • Tool inputs: values you enter into calculators or interactive tools, such as salary amounts, tax assumptions, currency amounts, or eligibility details. Unless a tool clearly says otherwise, these inputs are used to calculate results and are not meant to be legal, tax, financial, medical, or immigration advice.
  • Usage and device information: pages viewed, referring pages, browser type, device type, operating system, approximate location derived from IP address, timestamps, search terms used on the site, log files, performance data, and error reports.
  • Cookies and identifiers: cookies, local storage, pixels, web beacons, advertising identifiers, IP addresses, and similar technologies used for functionality, security, analytics, advertising, fraud prevention, frequency capping, and measurement.
  • Email and newsletter data: subscription status, email delivery events, opens, clicks, bounce data, unsubscribe data, and related records where those features are provided by our email service providers.
  • Administrative data: if you are authorized to access protected admin areas, we may process login events, session cookies, security logs, uploaded media, and activity records needed to administer and protect the site.

We do not knowingly require visitors to submit sensitive personal identifiers, government ID numbers, passport numbers, TRN numbers, NIS numbers, full bank details, or precise health information through public-facing forms. If you choose to send such information anyway, you do so at your own risk, and we may delete it when it is not needed.

3. Sources of Information

We may collect information from the following sources:

  • Directly from you, such as when you subscribe, contact us, use a form, enter tool inputs, or send feedback.
  • Automatically from your device, browser, cookies, local storage, server logs, security systems, and analytics or performance tools.
  • From service providers that help us host the site, deliver email, secure systems, prevent spam, measure performance, or operate advertising and monetization services.
  • From public sources, government agencies, official publications, third-party source websites, and news or information providers that we reference in content.

4. How We Use Information

We may use collected information to:

  • Operate, maintain, secure, troubleshoot, and improve the website and its tools.
  • Provide calculators, guides, news pages, search, newsletters, contact responses, and related features.
  • Send newsletters, service notices, updates, confirmations, unsubscribe notices, and administrative messages.
  • Detect, prevent, and investigate spam, fraud, abuse, automated scraping, unauthorized access, and security incidents.
  • Measure content performance, understand which pages are useful, improve site speed, and fix technical issues.
  • Serve, personalize, limit, measure, and protect advertisements where advertising partners are enabled.
  • Comply with legal obligations, enforce our Terms of Service, respond to lawful requests, and protect rights, safety, and property.

5. Notice at Collection and Data Categories

This section is intended to summarize, at or before collection where applicable, the categories of personal information we may collect and the purposes for which those categories may be used.

  • Identifiers: email address, online identifiers, IP address, device identifiers, and similar data, used for subscriptions, security, contact responses, analytics, advertising, and site operation.
  • Internet or network activity: page views, referring pages, approximate location, browser information, search activity on the site, ad interactions, and log data, used for analytics, security, debugging, personalization, advertising, and improvement.
  • Commercial and preference information: newsletter preferences, tool preferences, ad preferences, and interaction history, used to provide requested features, remember choices, and improve the site.
  • Inferences: general interests or content preferences inferred from site activity, used to improve content recommendations, search, advertising, and user experience.
  • Sensitive personal information: we do not intentionally collect sensitive personal information through ordinary public site use. If you voluntarily send sensitive information, we use it only as needed to respond, protect the site, comply with law, or delete it when it is not needed.

We do not use sensitive personal information to infer characteristics about you. We do not knowingly sell personal information for money. Advertising and analytics technologies may be considered a sale, sharing, targeted advertising, or cross-context behavioral advertising under some laws, and related choices are described below.

7. Advertising, Ad Networks, Cookies, and Similar Technologies

We may display advertising from advertising networks, exchanges, demand partners, affiliate partners, sponsorship platforms, direct advertisers, and other monetization services. These may include Google advertising services where enabled, as well as other platforms selected in the future. Advertising helps fund free content and tools.

When advertising or monetization services are used, third parties may place and read cookies on your browser, use web beacons, collect IP addresses, collect device identifiers, process browser and device information, measure ad performance, prevent fraud and abuse, limit how often ads appear, attribute conversions, and show personalized, contextual, restricted, or non-personalized ads depending on your settings, consent choices, location, platform rules, and applicable law.

Each advertising partner may process data under its own privacy policy. For example, Google explains how it uses information from sites and apps that use its services at How Google uses data when you use our partners' sites or apps. Other ad networks, affiliate platforms, analytics providers, social networks, and advertisers may offer their own opt-out tools, preference centers, or privacy controls. You can also use browser controls to block or delete cookies.

  • Essential cookies: support security, session management, rate limiting, site performance, and basic site operation.
  • Analytics cookies and logs: help us understand aggregate site usage, diagnose issues, and improve content and tools.
  • Advertising cookies and pixels: help ad partners deliver ads, measure performance, detect invalid activity, limit repetition, and support personalized or contextual advertising where allowed.
  • Preference storage: may remember settings such as consent choices, display preferences, favorites, or tool preferences.

We do not authorize any party to use the site to collect personal information for illegal, deceptive, discriminatory, or abusive advertising practices. We also do not knowingly pass names, email addresses, government identifiers, passwords, or exact account credentials to ad platforms for ad targeting.

9. When We Share Information

We may share information with the following categories of recipients:

  • Hosting, database, storage, security, email, analytics, search, content delivery, and infrastructure providers.
  • Advertising, measurement, anti-fraud, affiliate, sponsorship, and monetization partners.
  • Professional advisers, legal representatives, auditors, insurers, and compliance providers.
  • Government, law enforcement, regulators, courts, or private parties when we believe disclosure is legally required or necessary to protect rights and safety.
  • A successor, buyer, or transferee if the website, assets, business, or operations are sold, merged, reorganized, or transferred.

Service providers are expected to use information only as needed to provide services to us or as otherwise allowed by law and their own disclosed terms. Third-party advertising partners may act independently under their own privacy policies for some advertising and measurement activity.

10. Your Privacy Rights and Choices

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, portability, restriction, objection, withdrawal of consent, or opt out of certain targeted advertising, sharing, or sale-like processing. These rights may be subject to exceptions, identity verification, and limits under applicable law.

  • Email: unsubscribe using the link in a newsletter or contact us.
  • Cookies: use your browser settings to block, delete, or limit cookies and local storage. Blocking cookies may affect site functionality.
  • Global Privacy Control: where required by law and technically supported, we will treat recognized opt-out preference signals, such as Global Privacy Control, as requests to opt out of sale, sharing, or targeted advertising for that browser.
  • Do Not Track: some browsers send Do Not Track signals. Because there is no single industry standard for responding to those signals, we do not currently respond to all Do Not Track signals unless required by law.
  • Ads: use ad platform settings, device ad settings, industry opt-out tools, or consent choices where available to control personalized or targeted advertising.
  • Requests: email info@ourja.infowith the subject line "Privacy Request" and describe the right you want to exercise.

We will not discriminate against you for exercising privacy rights that apply to you. We may ask for information needed to verify your request and protect against unauthorized access to data.

11. U.S. State Privacy Rights

Residents of certain U.S. states, including California and other states with comprehensive privacy laws, may have additional rights depending on whether the law applies to us and the information involved. These rights may include the right to know, access, correct, delete, obtain a copy of, opt out of sale or sharing, opt out of targeted advertising, limit certain uses of sensitive personal information, and appeal a denied request.

California law may also require disclosures about categories of personal information collected, categories of sources, business or commercial purposes, categories of recipients, retention, and whether information is sold or shared. The sections above provide those disclosures for ordinary site visitors. We do not knowingly sell or share personal information of children under 16.

We do not offer financial incentives or loyalty programs in exchange for personal information. If that changes, we will provide the required notice and consent options. To exercise applicable state privacy rights, email info@ourja.infowith the subject line "Privacy Request".

12. Data Retention

We retain information for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Policy, including to operate the site, maintain records, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, prevent abuse, and maintain security. Retention periods vary by data type. For example, security logs may be kept for a limited operational period, newsletter records may be kept while you remain subscribed and for compliance records after unsubscribing, and legal records may be kept longer where required.

13. Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards intended to protect information against unauthorized access, loss, misuse, alteration, or disclosure. No website, network, database, email system, or internet transmission is completely secure. You are responsible for using secure devices, safe browsing practices, and caution when submitting information online.

14. Children's Privacy

The site is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, contact us so we can review and delete it where appropriate. Some regions provide higher age thresholds, and we will follow applicable law where it applies.

15. International Users and Data Transfers

Our site may be accessed from Jamaica, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, the European Economic Area, the Caribbean, and other locations. Information may be processed in countries where we, our hosting providers, service providers, or advertising partners operate. Those countries may have privacy laws different from the laws where you live. When required, we rely on appropriate safeguards or legal mechanisms for international transfers.

17. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date shows when the page was last materially updated. If changes are significant, we may provide additional notice where practical. Your continued use of the site after changes are posted means the updated Policy applies to your use going forward.

18. Contact Us
